Outstanding history of USMC occupation including last island costly victory. A must read for USMC WWII Pacific students of history.
I have just completed reading all 5 of the series, I was a member of the 3rd Raider Bn. in WWII. and would recommend this series to anyone interested in some of the great history of WWII. These books are very long and explain all of the details required for each operation. Also includes most of the errors in planning as well as all of the good parts.
By far the best series of books I have encountered in quite some time. Lots of clarifications, completions of partial stories, and a lot of stuff I never knew! SEMPER FI!
Overwhelming and documented information of the conduct of the last great war in the Pacific. I am disturbed at the training of the replacement troops. Close to end of war as little as two weeks of so called combat training were given to new troops. The powers that be were literally throwing untrained or under trained troops into the battle of most of the big campaigns of the Pacific war.
